Plan for Success
Our Children Deserve No Less!
Expect success.    Settle for no less.
All children have a right to succeed.  But all children have their
own starting point, insuring their individual journeys to success
to be unique.  To achieve that success, each child must know
clearly what is involved, and have periodic checks of positive
progress.  The components of the
Plan for Success are five-fold.
(1) Skills Readiness

Children must be ready to have a positive learning experience in whatever
class they are taking.  Teachers must deal with the reality that the pre-existing
skill levels of the children enrolled in their classes are not uniform.
Tools (tests) exist to help teachers rapidly determine pre-existing gaps.
These gaps must be known -- and then dealt with.
(2) Active Formative Assessments

Formative refers to Assessments OF Learning.
In shorter testing cycles than
Summative allows, teachers must learn:
1. What concepts do my students know and understand?
2. What concepts do my students not understand--
YET?
3. How to I
inform my teaching to help students achieve understanding?
(3) Analysis of Results

Formative Assessment data must be disaggregated within 24 hours.  A Class
Report
provides answers of the previous 3 questions for a teacher's class; an
Individual Student Report does the same thing for each student.
(4) Re-Visiting Strategy

A clear process must be in place to have each student re-visit those concepts
which they have not mastered...
yet.  Otherwise, these errors will persist.
(5) Visible Goals

For the day, or the week, each student must know  (1) what they're working on, (2)
what they have learned, and (3) what is coming in the future.
Success is pro-active.
